The GPD Case Management Program is designed to improve the housing retention rates for Veterans who were previously homeless, and transitioned to permanent housing or Veterans at risk of homelessness.

Cemetery

The State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown is the largest state-operated veterans cemetery in Connecticut. It is under the administrative control of the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs and its Commissioner.

Burial in the State Veterans Cemetery is reserved for eligible veterans and their spouses. Grave markers are also provided.

*Please excuse our appearance: the State Veterans Cemetery is currently under construction to complete two critical, federally-funded projects that will increase the capacity of the cemetery and improve stone alignment and landscaping. Thank you for your understanding.

There are no charges for the plot (cremains, single or double-depth) or for the opening and closing of the grave, or for the perpetual care of the grave. Also, the required headstone, a white, upright marble marker, will be provided by the Federal Government free of charge and will be installed at no cost by cemetery personnel.

Other than Honorable Discharge Benefits Extension

Effective October 1, 2018, Public Act 18-47 extends certain state and municipal benefits that are currently available to veterans honorably discharged or released under honorable conditions from active service in the armed forces, to veterans who received an Other than Honorable (OTH) discharge characterization.

To be eligible for such benefits, a veteran with an Other than Honorable (OTH) discharge must be diagnosed with one or more of three “Qualifying Conditions” which are:

    - Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) resulting from military service
    - Traumatic brain injury (TBI) resulting from military service
    - Military sexual trauma (MST) as described in 38 U.S.C. § 1720D.

The diagnosis/determination must be made by an individual licensed “to provide health care services at a United States Department of Veterans Affairs facility” which includes the following licensed persons: Physicians, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Psychologists and Licensed Clinical Social Workers, who will complete the CT DVA OTH Form 1.

The veteran applying for State or municipal benefits must submit, along with the completed CT DVA OTH Form 1, all other required documentation (e.g. Discharge Form DD-214, relevant agency application, etc...) to the agency or municipality administering the benefit for which the veteran is applying. The administering agency or municipality will then determine the veteran’s eligibility for the benefit.

A Veteran with a “Bad Conduct” or “Dishonorable” discharge is NOT eligible for Veteran’s benefits under this new law.

The Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) has a long history of "Serving Those Who Served"; since 1864, the Agency has supported Connecticut Veterans and continues this tradition with Residential and Healthcare programming on our campus in Rocky Hill.

Right at Home

The city of Stamford and the Veteran Resource Center works hand in hand with our trusted partner, Marc Brooks, owner of Right at Home in Darien. Right at Home provides free homecare services to our veterans and serves areas in Darien, Stamford, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, and Cos Cob. Trained CNAs and home health aides are exclusively hired to assist seniors with activities of daily living. Mr. Brooks has collaborated with family doctors and works with Stamford hospital, Villa of Stamford, Cassena Care of Stamford, Civita Care Center at Long Ridge, and Greenwich hospital. Mr. Brooks is a veteran of the US Navy Submarine Force and soon carried on earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Marc quickly progressed at Montefiore Medical Center, acquiring critical skills, and caring for patients as an ER and ICU nurse for over 13 years.

Red, White, & Blue Memorial Day Parade 2024 Flyer. Parade and ceremony will be Sunday May 19th 2024. Rain Date is June 2nd. Parade starts at 12pm ALL are invited. Ceremony in Veterans Memorial Park at 1pm.

The Stamford Patriotic & Special Events Commission in conjunction with Stamford Veterans Council, Stamford Veterans Park Partnership, and Stamford Veterans Resource Center invite all to the annual Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony on Sunday, May 19, 2024. This year's Grand Marshal will be Stamford native and US Army veteran, Al Koproski.

The parade steps off at 12:00 pm and will travel the following route:

Line up begins at the Stamford Police Department and will end at Veterans Memorial Park traveling straight down Bedford Street, across Broad Street and continuing on Atlantic Street.

There will be a ceremony immediately following the parade in Veterans Memorial Park (130 Atlantic Street).

The parade & ceremony will also be live streamed by LocalLive (link will be shared closer to the day of the parade in May).
