MAYOR’S UPDATES

On March 8^th, I will be presenting my annual budget to the Board of Finance and Board of Representatives’ Fiscal Committee. This proposal is my administration’s blueprint for growing Stamford – advancing economic prosperity and opportunity, investing and building more sustainable infrastructure, and continuing the work of transforming our government to work for you. As your Mayor, I have always been committed to listening to every community across this city and prioritizing spending and advancing policy that meets the needs of our residents, businesses, and visitors.

New Investments and Initiatives to Improve Pedestrian Safety: Last week, I was proud to announce critical investments in our city’s infrastructure to meet our Vision Zero goals to make our roads and walkways safer for all residents and visitors. These investments include:
- $2.7 million for the Latham Park Area Infrastructure Project;
- $2.7 million for citywide traffic signals and roadway design and construction;
- $1 million in American Rescue Plan funds for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure,
- A safety study for Washington Boulevard
- Vision Zero Crash Dashboard
- 19 Pedestrian Safety Projects.

$5.25 Million in Federal Funding for City Projects: In case you missed it, Stamford will receive $5 million in federal funding to build a new library branch on the East Side, street light improvements, and a new regional police academy at the Stamford Police Department.
Partnership Opportunities with the Mayor’s Youth Employment Program: We are looking for hosts and sponsors for this incredible program which offers students access to paid employment in the private or non-profit sectors. This initiative provides Stamford’s youth with a “real world” perspective before they go to college, and improves their skills to make them better workers for both the current and future workforce opportunities they will pursue. Congratulations to Ms. Carolyn Lowe: On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of presenting a proclamation to Carolyn Lowe, the Office Support Specialist, at Hart Magnet School. Ms. Lowe is retiring from Hart Magnet School after a storied career in the district. We all wish her the best in this next phase of life and know that Ms. Lowe has touched the lives of many students, parents, and staff members during her tenure at Hart.
