The following requirements are necessary to obtain a marriage license at the Town Clerk's Office in Stamford.

Marriages licenses must be completed by appointment only.  Please email townclerk@stamfordct.gov with the completed marriage license worksheet and attach a copy of your photo ID and your fiancé’s photo ID. 

The $50.00 application fee is due on the day of the appointment. (Cash, check or credit accepted) [Credit card has a transaction fee] The next available appointment and our office scheduling hours will be provided once the completed application and photo ID from each person is received.

Helpful Information When Completing Application

  • Education Section
    • Must be a numerical value for each 3 sections (No checkmarks, X’s, etc.)
  • Supervision Or Control By Guardian Or Conservator
    • Must be checked as Yes or No
  • Mother’s Full Name
    • This is your mother’s name at birth (Before she was married, do not include married name)
  • No. Of This Marriage
    • If this is your first time getting married, then enter “1”. If this is your second time getting married, then enter “2” and so on.
  • Social Security Number
    • If you do not have a Social Security Number, please enter “None”
  • Both parties must personally appear. 
  • Either party may start the application process.  However, the other party must appear before the ceremony to sign the application.  
  • If either partner is under 18 years of age, they must have their parent or guardian sign a consent form.  Identification must be presented by the parent.  A birth certificate must be presented by persons less than 18 years of age.
  • You can only apply in the town where you are having your ceremony.
  • A blood test is NO LONGER REQUIRED in the State of Connecticut.

After the ceremony is performed, the officiator will return the license to our office.  Once we have received the license, you will be able to obtain a certified copy of your marriage certificate.  The cost is $20.00 per copy, which you may obtain by mail or in person.
