Each dog six months of age or older must be licensed annually before July 1st. Licensing begins every year on or before June 30th. Download, print and fill out this application: Dog License Form

Include

  • Copy of a current rabies certificate, signed by a veterinarian.
  • Copy of spaying or neutering certificate (if first time dog is being licensed)
  • Check payable to Stamford Town Clerk, or Cash

Fees

  • $8 - spayed/neutered dogs
  • $19 - unaltered dogs
  • $1 late penalty per month 

Return your application

  • By mail (include a stamped self-addressed envelope).
  • In person  (we’re open M-F 8-12; 1-3:45)
  • Drop off in the locked box in Government Center (accessible 24/7)

All dogs six months and older must be licensed and wear a collar and tag at all times. A dog without a tag is presumed to be unlicensed and is not protected by law. A tag must not be used on any dog other than the dog described in the license bearing the corresponding number. You are liable for damage done by your dog. Owners of roaming dogs are liable to prosecution.


Annual Renewal

Online renewals open on June 1 and close on August 31.

There are a few requirements to renew a dog online:

  • Dog must have been licensed in the last tag year
  • Tag mailing address must be on file
  • Up-to-date rabies certificate
