Mayor Martin Swears-in Assistant Chiefs of Police Louis DeRubeis & Silas Redd

STAMFORD, Conn. - Mayor David Martin was joined by Director of Public Safety Ted Jankowski and Police Chief Tim Shaw as he conducted a swearing-in ceremony for new Assistant Chiefs of Police Louis A. DeRubeis and Silas Redd at Police headquarters today.

DeRubeis has served in the Stamford Police Department since 1997, and rose through the ranks from Patrol Officer to Lieutenant. He has also held the role of Bomb Squad Commander since 2007.

Redd has been an active member of the Stamford Police Department since 1988. He was awarded Police Officer of the Year in 2010 and has continued to collaborate with various community outreach and youth membership programs.

“Assistant Chiefs DeRubeis and Redd have decades of police experience and strong connections to our community. They have shown their dedication to ensuring our Police Department continues to grow and improve,” said Mayor David Martin. “Stamford is fortunate to have an incredible police force to keep us safe and we look forward to the two new additions in leadership.”

“I truly believe Stamford has one of the best police departments in the country. I’m honored to have two incredible members of our department rise to the position of Assistant Chief,” said Police Chief Shaw. “I am confident that they’ll follow in the shoes of the accomplished assistant chiefs who came before them.”

Although Shaw’s own swearing-in ceremony was limited to immediate family and upper level department personnel due to COVID-19 restrictions, DeRubeis and Redd’s promotion was witnessed by a very large audience on Tuesday afternoon. Spectators included family, coworkers, government officials, and members of the press.

“Our new Assistant Chiefs DeRubeis and Redd have repeatedly demonstrated extensive knowledge in all aspects of law enforcement and have displayed an impressive amount of professionalism,” said Director of Public Safety Ted Jankowski. “They each bring their own unique skillset to the role. DeRubeis has a great deal of experience in high pressure crisis situations due to his time acting as Bomb Squad Commander. Redd has a genuine passion for community outreach and youth mentorship that he can further utilize in this role. They’re both tremendous additions.”

Assistant Chiefs DeRubeis and Redd succeed former Assistant Police Chief Thomas Wuennemann. Wuennemann retired in May 2021 after four decades of service.
