The mission of the Records Retention Unit is to collect process and protect all records filed within the Stamford Police Department. This Unit will maintain accurate and complete records of reported information; and increase public confidence with the Stamford Police Department by providing access to our records in a timely manner, as authorized by law. The primary focus is to serve the public, law enforcement and criminal justice agencies and to promote the efficiency and effectiveness through improved coordination and cooperation from this division.

The Stamford Police Department strongly encourages all citizens to request “Police Incident Reports & Collision Reports” by utilizing the following electronic means:

  • Incident Reports should be requested by email. Please send your request to spdrecords@stamfordct.gov. Please include a report number whenever possible. If you are unable to include the report number, please include as much information about the incident / call for service as you can, including:
    • Your name
    • Date and time of the incident
    • Location of the incident
    • Type of incident
  • Collision Reports can be purchased at crashdocs.org.

You are not required to come down to the Police Department to obtain a copy of a report. Should you find it necessary to come into the Police Department to obtain your record, the records room will be open to the public from 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM on Tuesdays & Thursdays. We are located at 725 Bedford Street Stamford, CT 06901-1194.
