Officials Review Protocols During Tabletop Exercise

Post Date:07/15/2021 3:34 PM

STAMFORD, Conn. – City public safety officials and representatives from community agencies met virtually today to review Hurricane and Coastal Storm Readiness Protocols. Officials in City Government, the Stamford Police Department, Stamford Fire Department, Operations Department, and Public Safety, Health, and Welfare were among those in attendance.

“Keeping the people of Stamford safe is our number one priority. We want to make certain we are ready for foreseeable emergencies, which is why we regularly conduct proactive exercises such as these,” said Mayor David Martin. “Proactively planning and thinking ahead has been successful on numerous occasions, most notably the Covid-19 pandemic, and we will continue to keep planning ahead to be better prepared and to keep our City safe.”

With hurricane season having begun on June 1st and continuing through November 30th, it remains essential for residents to be aware of the risks and necessary procedure affiliated with hurricanes, storm surges, flooding, high winds, and tornadoes.

The City recommends that all residents within the Stamford community revisit emergency plans to prevent loss of life and damage to property. These precautions, as well as awareness of hurricane hazards, will be essential in protecting families, homes, and neighborhoods in the event of a tropical storm.

“Being prepared and understanding how to react to hazards and risks associated with a hurricane are vital to the safety of our community,” Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Trevor Roach added. “In the event of a pending storm, it is important for residents to adhere to public safety warnings and follow the instructions necessary to keep themselves and their property safe.”

Residents are encouraged to do their part to prepare for hurricane season by developing an emergency plan, creating an emergency supply kit, and developing a family communications plan to help ensure loved ones can communicate with one another before and after a severe storm.  Hurricane preparedness information can be found at https://www.ready.gov/hurricanes.

Residents are also urged to register for Stamford Alert (Stamford’s Emergency Notification System) at CTAlert.gov.
