From the Mayor's Office

  • Mayor David Martin announced during his biweekly Covid-19 Livestream on Tuesday, 10/26, that  due to the steady decline in Covid-19 cases and in concurrence with the recommendation of the City’s Acting Director of Health, Stamford’s indoor mask mandate is lifted effective immediately.
    • Although masks will no longer be required, Stamford residents are advised to take reasonable safety precautions, practice social distancing, utilize regular handwashing and other PPE, and as always, get the Covid-19 vaccine.
    • The reversal of the mandate does not apply to Stamford Public Schools, which fall under the authority of the State of Connecticut.
    • Martin also announced that Stamford businesses are entitled to set their mask regulations and requirements at their own discretion.
  • Mayor David Martin represented Stamford in the viral Honor Your Hometown campaign, in which notable figured such at General Colin Powell, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, and singer Dolly Parton shared personal stories about what makes their hometowns so special.

  • If you are unable to leave your home or are uncomfortable traveling to a vaccine site, the Stamford Department of Health will bring the vaccine to you.

The Connecticut Council on Developmental Disabilities is offering assistance to individuals with behavioral, sensory, emotional, cognitive, or psychiatric conditions that prevent them from attending existing vaccine sites. Fill out the State of CT Homebound Intake Form if you or someone in your household needs assistance.


Community

  • The Patriotic and Special Events Commission along with the Veterans Park Partnership and the local veterans groups, will be hosting the 2021 Veteran’s Day Parade on Sunday, November 7th, at the 12 p.m. The parade will start at 713 Bedford St., in front of the Police Dept.
    • The parade will march down Bedford St, across Broad and end at the Veterans Memorial Park, followed by a ceremony honoring the Grand Marshal, James l. Dudley, Jr and Stamford‘s Purple Heart recipients.

  • The City of Stamford is in the process of creating its first Housing Affordability Plan in over 20 years. Although residents and community members have been participating since the project’s beginning, the public is invited to learn more and provide feedback on initial findings through November 17th.
  • The Boys & Girls Club of Stamford will be hosting a “Halloween Drive-Through” on Friday, October 29 from 6:30-7:30 pm. Residents are invited to stop by for Halloween art activity and a complimentary candy bag!
  • As of As of November 3rd, the in-road portion of Stamford’s StrEATeries outdoor dining will come to an end so that the City can prepare for the upcoming winter snow season.
  • The Stamford Arts & Culture Commission is now accepting grant applications for artistic and cultural projects in Stamford. The Stamford Arts & Culture (SAC) Grant — formerly known as CAPP — has provided dozens of Stamford-based arts and cultural organizations with funding to initiate special projects within the city for over 20 years.
    • To submit an application and for more information on eligibility requirements, please visit: https://www.stamfordct.gov/sacgrant. All applications are due before 11:59 pm on Monday, November 15, 2021.
  • The Spring Street Farmers Market will be open for the last time for the season on Saturday, October 30, from 9am-2pm.


State News

  • Mayor David Martin joined Governor Ned Lamont on Monday, October 25, at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new commuter garage project for Stamford Train Station.
    • The project will see the creation of a new and improved 928-spot garage, and is scheduled for completion in summer 2023.
  • Governor Ned Lamont and Attorney General William Tong announced yesterday, October 27, the approval by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) of the $103.4 million Eversource accountability plan they announced earlier this month.
    • The agreement will increase local accountability and control, and return $103.4 million back to Connecticut families following significant deficiencies in the utility’s response to Tropical Storm Isaias.
    • The agreement also stabilizes electric distribution rates until at least January 2024
  • Following several weeks of data collection as required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Governor Ned Lamont announced on Friday that he has formally submitted a request for a presidential major disaster declaration resulting from the damage caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida in early September.
    • To qualify for the declaration, FEMA requires state and local governments to complete a detailed assessment under a process that typically takes several weeks to complete, including a calculation of FEMA-eligible damages, in order to determine whether the required federal thresholds have been met.


Services

  • The City of Stamford will continue to permit residents to place their leaves curbside for the 2021 Fall season. Only loose leaves that are left curbside will be collected. Please make sure that your loose leaves are not on the road or blocking the sidewalk, as this may result in removal costs and fines.
  • The leaf pickup program begins November 15th. Leaves must be out no later than:
    • North (Above Merritt Parkway): November 15, 2021
    • Middle (Merritt Parkway to I-95): November 22, 2021
    • South (South of I-95): December 6, 2021

  • The ongoing painting of High Ridge Road is nearing completion.
  • Work has begun on the Davenport St. reconstruction project.
    • The project is a public-private partnership to rebuild the roadway, and is in preparation for the Greenwich Ave/ Pulaski Roundabout.

  • The City of Stamford is continuing their partnership with textile collection company HELPSY, which enables residents to recycle unwanted textiles more conveniently by booking an appointment with the organization.
