Automated Traffic Enforcement Safety Devices

Introduction

Speed Safety Cameras, officially known has Automated Traffic Enforcement Safety Devices, are a Federal Highways Administration Proven Safety Countermeasure and a key component of Stamford Vision Zero program to eliminate fatal and serious injury crashes by 2032. Safe Speeds is a core principle of the Safe System Approach since humans are less likely to survive high-speed crashes. By reducing vehicle speeds through Speed Safety Cameras, we're improving safety on Stamford's streets. You can read more about the program and how the cameras work in the FAQs section below. Here are some highlights:

  • All funds will go towards roadway safety improvements in Stamford
  • Vehicle owners will be ticketed for exceeding the posted speed limit by 10 MPH or more
  • The fine for a first violation is $50 and subsequent violations $75
  • All violations are reviewed by a City of Stamford employee before being issued to the vehicle owner
  • Violations will no impact your insurance or go towards points on your license
  • All personally identifiable information (PII) will be deleted after the violation is adjudicated
  • Red light cameras are not authorized for use in the City of Stamford
  • All Speed Safety Camera Locations have to be approved by the Stamford Board of Representatives
