Public transit is an integral part of how people get around Stamford. Several CTtransit lines run through Stamford, connecting visitors and residents to the Downtown, the Stamford Transportation Center, and other parts of the City. Metro-North Railroad, Amtrak, and Intercity bus services all use the Transportation Center, which has over 8.5 million riders a year. Stamford is the second busiest train station for Metro-North after Grand Central, with several peak hour express trains that run into NYC. Taking public transit decreases emissions and congestion while making for easier commutes for people. A city with a strong transit system attracts companies and people who want to live and work in Stamford.
