With the enactment of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, significant funding is available for businesses and homeowners to switch to clean, renewable energy sources. States and utilities also offer incentives, subsidies, and rebates that can be combined with federal tax credits. And it’s not just for solar panels.  It includes solar water heaters, fuel cells, battery storage, wind turbines, heat pumps, and more.  Benefits include increases in home value, decreased energy costs, and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. See below for additional information and resources.

The US Department of Energy’s “Residential Clean Energy Property Credit,” allows for a credit of up to 30% of qualifying renewable energy expenditures off of your annual federal income tax return. The program runs through to 2032.  Click here for more details and click here for the US Department of Energy’s Homeowners Guide for Going Solar.

For a quick solar savings estimator, just enter your address here on Google’s Project Sunroof.  You’ll get a visual of your roof, an estimate of your roof’s available sunlight and usable square footage and an estimate of the size of installation you would need in terms of kilowatt hours.  You’ll also get an energy savings comparison, the potential environmental impact, and an estimate of how much you could save in traditional energy costs.
