The mission of the Ballet School of Stamford is to foster the Art of Dance by offering excellent dance training to all levels of students while promoting and encouraging cultural diversity in ballet training and performance. To present high quality performances to our local community to develop an awareness in the business community of the value of a disciplined dance education. We support universal access to the arts, and welcome individuals of all ages and abilities, whether audience members or artists, in all of our arts programs.

Programs:

Excellent dance training with a focus on ballet to all levels of students. Leveled classes for children age 3 to 18 in ballet, creative movement, jazz, modern, hip hop, musical theatre and choreography. Over 1.3 million dollars in scholarships have been awarded to local children.
Professional quality performances that enhance the quality of life in Stamford including our Spring performance at the Palace Theatre where over 26,000 Stamford Public School students have attended for free with their schools.
Promote and encourage cultural diversity in dance, especially ballet by hiring teachers, guest artist and choreographers who represent our diverse student body.
Work to develop an awareness of the value of a disciplined dance education.

The Avon Theatre is Stamford’s only member-supported, nonprofit art house showcasing the best independent, foreign, documentary and cult classic films. The Education Initiative offers complimentary memberships to educators and college scholarships to local high school seniors who compete in an annual essay contest on “Film Matters”. A beacon on Bedford Street in Downtown Stamford since 1939, the Avon is embarking on a $9.9 million capital campaign. The Avon reCreated Capital Campaign for the 21 Century will add a third screen, provide handicapped accessibility, an expanded concession, new seats, projectors and audio systems, and many structural improvements. We reach audiences of 1,000+ people of all ages and from all walks of life. The concert is a cultural equalizer, featuring symphonic music and highlighting the music of a different culture each year. We feature more than 100 young musicians, alongside professional musicians and a multilingual choir, coming together in a demonstration of inclusion and diversity.

FAMILY ADVOCACY: At INTEMPO, we take the whole child into account. Our role in our students’ lives extends beyond their music lessons and into other aspects of their development. Curtain Call, Inc. – Stamford’s longest-running and only, year round, nonprofit producing theatre company

Founded in 1990 in association with The Stamford Community Arts Council, Curtain Call moved to the Sterling Farms Theatre Complex in 1992 — in cooperation with the City of Stamford.

This vibrant organization has received: The Governor’s Award for Excellence in Culture & Tourism.

An ACE Award from the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County and has been named the area’s Best Local Theatre 10 years in a row.

Each year, 12 or more full scale productions play in our two venues: The Kweskin Theatre (a traditional auditorium) and The Dressing Room Theatre (a cabaret-style venue with tables and chairs.) Additionally, each summer, we offer a free, full-scale production of a Shakespearean classic on our outdoor version of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre stage.

Our productions include classic Broadway musicals like FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, CABARET, RAGTIME, CINDERELLA and more in addition to plays like DEATH OF A SALESMAN, AGATHA CHRISTIE MURDER MYSTERIES, ARSENIC & OLD LACE, THE ODD COUPLE and more. We also produce newer works as well as launch original productions by area artists. Auditions are open to all.

Our mission is to provide an outlet for artistic expression in Fairfield County while entertaining the general public, and to provide a safe and nurturing environment for learning for all ages. Our educational programs are offered year-round, after school, evenings and Saturday mornings for those as young as 6 and through adult. We offer fall, winter and spring, 8-week workshop sessions taught by experienced teaching artists. Our summer is focused on four, two-week, full day sessions for children 6 through 16. We also produce a full-scale summer musical with evening rehearsals for young artists from approximately age 10 through 21.

The purpose of the International Hildreth Meière Association, Inc. [IHMA] is to conduct activities, through education and preservation, to promote and perpetuate the legacy of Hildreth Meière, a distinguished mural painter and designer whose achievements gained the recognition of the established art world during the first half of the 20th century.

Bio: Hildreth Meière (me-AIR) was one of the most renowned American muralists of the 20th century. During her forty-year career from the 1920s until her death in 1961, she pioneered a modern approach to murals that broke away from academic tradition and blended such influences as early Byzantine mosaics, Egyptian wall painting, classical Greek vase painting, and Native American beadwork into a style that came to be known as Art Deco.

Working with leading architects of her day, Meière designed approximately 100 commissions, both secular and liturgical. Her best-known commissions include Radio City Music Hall, One Wall Street, St. Bartholomew’s Church, Temple Emanu-El, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. She also decorated the Nebraska State Capitol in Lincoln, the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C., and the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis.

The Stamford Museum & Nature Center is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of art and popular culture, the natural and agricultural sciences, and history. The Museum is a vital cultural and educational resource for the community, and a focal point for family activity, lifelong learning, and inspiration. We seek to inspire creativity, foster self-discovery, promote environmental stewardship, and nurture an appreciation for learning through exhibitions, education programs, and special events that enhance every visitor’s experience of our unique site.

With over 80 acres of hardwood forest, miles of hiking trails and peaceful walking paths, we are the model nature-based organization for getting families outdoors year-round. We revel in social engagement, welcoming adults and kids for programs like Drive-in Movies, Farm-to-Table Suppers, Cooking Classes, Farmer & Artisan Markets, Clam Bakes and Festivals. Heckscher Farm is a working farm and home to a variety of animals including heritage breeds and exotics. We make our very own line of Maple Syrup right here in our Sugar House + Cidery. We host or curate six major fine art exhibitions in our galleries annually, and have grown a diverse Permanent Collection of more than 20,000 cultural objects, artifacts, and works of art since 1936.
