Welcome to the newly designed weekly city newsletter! Every Friday, you’ll hear updates from the Mayor’s Office, upcoming events, important city and state information, and resources for Stamford residents.

MAYOR’S UPDATES

  • $5.25 Million in Federal Funding for City Projects: I joined Senator Chris Murphy, Senator Richard Blumenthal, and Congressman Jim Himes to highlight the over $5 million in federal funding Stamford is receiving to build a new library branch on the East Side, street light improvements, and a new regional police academy at the Stamford Police Department.
  • Phase 1 of Dredging at Cove Island Park Marina Completed: Using state funding, our Department of Operations has finished this first phase of dredging which will remove debris from the bottom of water and helps protect the environment and support boating activity. The second phase is estimated to be completed by the end of 2024.
  • Taking Action for Increased Pedestrian Safety: We have committed our city to the Vision Zero Initiative. To follow updates on the Vision Zero Initiative, click here. This month, I testified in support of statewide Vision Zero pedestrian safety initiatives to make Stamford streets safer for residents. Read more here.
  • Advocating for Education Funding: This month, I testified to our General Assembly in favor of more education cost sharing (ECS) funding for Stamford schools.
  • 2023 Stamford Arts and Culture Awards Announced: I was honored to present the winners of the 2023 Arts and Culture Grant, read more here. Thank you to Stamford’s Arts and Culture Committee for their help selecting such talented arts and culture organizations in our city!
  • Approval for Virtual Net Metering to Reduce Carbon Emissions and Save Energy Costs: The Board of Finance approved our project to advance virtual net metering, which allows the city to reduce its energy costs while advancing statewide goals of reducing carbon emissions and increasing renewable energy sources. This will now go to the Board of Representatives for approval.

     

    CITY NEWS

  • The next Board of Assessment Appeals meetings will be held in March 2023. Application deadline is February 17, 2023. Please click here for more information.
  • The state of Connecticut’s mandatory revaluation process has been completed. More information about the revaluation process can be found here.
  • The Special Election for the 148th House District will be held on February 28th, 2023. For more information click.
  • All vendors working with the City, please see the notice posted here.
  • The Stamford Department of Health Flu vaccine clinic is open from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm every Wednesday until April 30th, 2023. The clinic is located at 137 Henry Street, no appointment needed.

  • Wednesday, February 15, 10:00 AM Grand Opening of the Stamford Veterans Resource Center Stamford Old Town Hall, 175 Atlantic Street, Stamford
    •  We are proud to announce the Stamford Veterans Resource Center's Opening at Stamford Old Town Hall, 175 Atlantic Street, Stamford, CT. We want this center to be a place for all veterans and their families to be connected to the experts who can help them gain access to the services and programs tailored specifically for them. Opening day will include networking opportunities for veterans and VA representatives to learn about special programs, services, and benefits AND free Yoga Nidra!
  • Wednesday, February 15 Let’s Talk About Mental Health Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 29 Grove Street, Stamford 5:30-7:00 p.m.
    •  “Let’s Talk About Mental Health” panel discussion moderated by the Yolande Ford, LCSW and Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion at United Way of Western Connecticut and Stamford Cradle to Career. Panelists include: Tichianaa Armah, MD from Community Health Center; Lorenzo Colón Munroe, LCSW from The Center for Wellbeing-Centro Bienestar, and Ashley Carr Hampton, LCSW from Domus Kids.
  • Sunday, February 19 Black Stamford: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow Boys & Girls Club/Yerwood Center, 90 Fairfield Avenue, Stamford 1:00-3:00 p.m.
    •  In honor of Black History Month, join us and hear from specially invited Stamford guests and residents who have made and are making significant contributions to Stamford.  The program will be filled with musical and dance performances woven between the stories about our community near and wide, from our youth to our elders.

COVID-19

  • Covid Testing Sites
    • St. Mary’s Church (566 Elm St) testing site will be open at the following times: Sign-up for an appointment here.
        • Monday - Friday 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm & Saturday - Sunday 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
        • Beginning January 1, 2023, the state will no longer be covering the cost for uninsured patients. If you are uninsured, you can still receive a test, but you will be charged for the cost of the test. 
  • Case Numbers
    • Follow the City of Stamford’s Covid-19 Dashboard, which provides the latest up-to-date information on COVID-19 cases and vaccination rates in the City.
  • Vaccination Sites
    • Sunday February 12th, 2023: The vaccination site at Americares (401 Shippan Ave) will be open from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

 2/13-2/17 vaccines are available at the following locations free without an appointment:

    • All Ages
      • 137 Henry Street Clinic: Tuesday & Friday – Appointment Preferred 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
        • Call (203)-977-5385
      • 137 Henry Street Clinic: Monday & Thursday - 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
      • Ferguson Library: Monday – Thursday: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
      • Americares (401 Shippan Ave): Thursday & Friday – 8:00 am -12:00 pm

         

    • 1st and 2nd doses are available to all, as well as booster shots for ages 5+ (Pfizer) and 18+ (Moderna/J&J) at all walk up vaccination clinics.

       

      Other COVID-19 Resources

    •  If you are unable to leave your home or are uncomfortable traveling to a vaccine site, the Stamford Department of Health will bring the vaccine to you. Please call 203-977-4378 or 203-977-4369 to schedule your free in-home COVID-19 vaccine appointment.

    •  All information about Stamford's response to COVID-19 can be found at www.stamfordct.gov/covid19.

    • Please visit the State of Connecticut's Vaccine Portal for information on how to request a new copy of your card.
