Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

Read below to learn more about what my administration is working on each day to deliver for you, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

My statement on the recent attacks of terror in Israel: “I stand with the Israeli people during this dark moment. My thoughts and prayers are with those mourning the loss of family and friends, and so many others throughout our community who are struggling with these senseless acts of terrorism. It is critical that we unite against such atrocious acts of violence which are a clear breach of human rights. The City of Stamford mourns for the people of Israel and all of those that are, have, and will be impacted.”

MAYOR’S UPDATES

Weekly Local Business Spotlight: Edgewood Academy

Each week I will highlight one of our incredible small businesses that received one of the 176 Stamford COVID-19 relief grants.

Edgewood Academy is a nature focused early childhood education center that started in Stamford in 2006 as Mrs. Bee’s Learn & Play daycare and has grown into a larger program that is accepting new children through their website. Activities include arts and crafts, science and learning, ABCs and 123s, and social development that blends learning indoors and out.

Community Non-Profit Spotlight: Shippan Point Garden Club

Each week I will highlight an invaluable local initiative that received one of the 21 Mayor’s Micro-Grants.

  • Mission: Our mission is to stimulate interest and promote education in the areas of gardening, floral design, civic planting and conservation
  • Project Funding Purpose: Funding was awarded to beautify the entrance to The Katrina Mygatt Recycling Center by refurbishing the garden with shrubs and perennials.

  • Solidarity Rally: This week, I was honored to join residents, faith and community leaders from the United Jewish Federation of Stamford, New Canaan, and Darien, and UJA-JCC Greenwich to stand in solidarity with Israel.

  •  Hispanic Heritage Month: September 15th - October 15th marks National Hispanic Heritage Month, an annual celebration of the achievements, contributions, and culture of Hispanic Americans. I am so proud to celebrate the rich contributions, history, and culture of the many Hispanic American residents in Stamford, and our country.
  • Small Business Visits: Ensuring small businesses have the support and resources they need to thrive is one of my administration’s main priorities. In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, I visited Doggie Do Dog Grooming and Casa Villa Restaurant. These small businesses are two of the 34 Hispanic owned businesses who were recipients of the City of Stamford’s COVID-19 Relief Grant.
