Mission and Responsibilities

The mission of the Transportation, Traffic, and Parking Department is to ensure the safe and efficient movement of people and goods in the City of Stamford.  We are a safety first department and we strive to create a mobility environment that caters to all pedestrians, bicyclists, public transit users, and motorists.  We have a wide range of responsibilities in Stamford, but broadly speaking we are tasked with the following:

  • Vehicular, Bicycle, and Pedestrian Infrastructure Planning, Engineering, Construction, and Operations
  • Traffic Signal Maintenance and Timing
  • Traffic Signs and Pavement Markings Installation and Maintenance
  • Parking Operations

Stamford Vision Zero

The City of Stamford has committed to Vision Zero to eliminate roadway fatalities in Stamford by 2032. The Transportation, Traffic & Parking Department is leading this effort along with several other City departments. You can read more about our program here
