Stamford’s Office of Public Safety is monitoring a strong low-pressure system that will approach the region on Sunday, bringing chances for widespread moderate to heavy rainfall and gusty winds.

Wind – sustained winds of 25-35 mph with gusts of 45-50 mph are possible Sunday evening into early Monday morning. Breezy winds will likely persist for much of the daylight hours on Monday, but should weaken through the day as the system exits the region.

Rain – 2 to 2.5 inches of total rainfall are expected in our area – most of this rain will fall over a 12 hr period late Sunday into early Monday morning.  Widespread minor to locally moderate coastal flooding potential for vulnerable areas with Monday morning high tide. By Monday, rainfall chances should diminish throughout the morning hours.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for our area from Sunday afternoon through late Sunday night. They are forecasting excessive runoff resulting in flooding rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

Prepare – residents are advised to prepare by securing any outdoor furniture, decorations, or other items that may be susceptible to blowing conditions.  Ready your household for possible power outages caused by downed trees or wires.  Consider postponing plans that would take you outdoors and avoid driving during hazardous weather.  Stayed tuned to local media for the latest weather information.
