Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

Read below to learn more about initiatives my administration is working on, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

Weekly Local Business Spotlight: Cottontails Childcare & Learning Center

Each week I will highlight one of our incredible small businesses that received one of the 176 Stamford COVID-19 relief grants.

Cottontails Childcare & Learning Center, located at 9 Riverbend Dr. South in Stamford, started in 2006 and uses a curriculum that aligns with Connecticut’s Early Learning Development Standards. Cottontails began as a family daycare and has expanded to offer infants, toddlers, and preschool programs that center on individual growth, communication, and the belief that each child is a unique individual with a large capacity for growth and development.

MAYOR’S UPDATES

Winter Preparedness Meeting: As winter kicks into full swing, last Thursday, the Mayor’s Office convened all managers from City Departments in the Emergency Operations Center for a winter readiness meeting to discuss their department’s preparation protocol ahead of any severe weather we might see this winter. Here are some important winter weather reminders:

  1. In the event of accumulated snowfall, please stay off of the roads unless it’s an emergency. This allows for road crews to clear the snow quicker.
  2. If you must go outside, dress warmly and in layers. Cover exposed skin, even if you are just making a short trip.
  3. Warming shelters are open and the full list of locations can be found here: https://www.stamfordct.gov/government/public-safety-health-welfare/stamford-warming-center-locations.

Arts & Culture Grant: In collaboration with the Stamford Arts and Culture Commission we recently announced the winners of the 2024 Stamford Arts & Culture (SAC) Grant. Arts and cultural organizations play an important role in the vibrancy of our city, and the continued diversity of this year’s grants recipients demonstrates the extensive arts and culture scene in Stamford. Learn more about the grant winners here.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in Stamford: Governor Ned Lamont recently announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation is awarding the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection with funding to expand Connecticut’s network of electric vehicle charging stations. The City of Stamford received 12 DCFC chargers at the Bedford Street Parking Garage and 12 DCFC chargers at the Summer Street Parking Garage. This furthers our commitment here in Stamford to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fostering a clean energy future.
