Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

Read below to learn more about initiatives my administration is working on, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

Weekly Local Business Spotlight: Empowered Learning Transformation Center

Each week I will highlight one of our incredible small businesses that received one of the 176 Stamford COVID-19 relief grants.

Empowered Learning Transformation Center uses a holistic approach and the latest research and development in neurology and neuroplasticity, rewiring the brain, to help students have better learning outcomes. With the aim of empowering children to improve their learning skills without heavy medication use, their variety of programs including in-center, hybrid, online, and memory and learning strategy courses are tailored to ultimately help learners gain the essential skills that will help them engage with and learn content.

MAYOR’S UPDATES

  • Northeast Corridor Rail Discussion: It was great to join Gov. Lamont, CTDOT Commissioner Eucalitto, Federal Railroad Administration Administrator Amit Bose, Amtrak CEO Stephen Cardner, and MTA Metro-North Railroad President Catherine Rinaldi for a discussion about the future of rail service on the Northeast Corridor. Stamford is a key transit hub on the Northeast Corridor, the nation’s most densely populated region, and supports $3 trillion in economic output. I look forward to continuing to work with our state and federal partners to ensuring these long-term investments, and making sure Stamford has fast and efficient rail service.

  • 2023 Teacher of the Year: I was pleased with the opportunity to present Elba Sims with a proclamation in recognition of being named 2023 Stamford Teacher of the Year. Elba is a remarkable teacher who runs the New Arrivals class, teaching students who have just arrived in the US from various countries around the world. Elba’s dedication, compassion, and love for her students shines through in all that she does, and we are grateful to have her as a teacher with Stamford Public Schools.

  • Climate Action Summit: Last week we hosted our first Climate Action Summit, where key stakeholders from both the private and public sectors discussed how we can work together on shared sustainability goals, and on addressing the climate. Check out this News12 clip to learn more.

  • Youth Mental Health Alliance: Last week, I joined community and nonprofit leaders at the Winter Convening of the Stamford Youth Mental Health Alliance (YMHA) to launch its first public awareness campaign – “Don’t carry it alone. We’ve got you.” The campaign is designed to reach families, children, and the public with important information about youth mental health and resources available in the Stamford community.

  • Stamford Police Promotion Ceremony: Last week I was honored to join Stamford Police Chief Shaw for the promotion of officers Captain Eugene Dohmann, Lieutenant Kristen Engstrand, Sergeant Connor Pennoyer, and Sergeant Charlie Williams. Thank you for all you do, and congratulations!
