Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

Post Date:03/15/2024 6:09 PM

Read below to learn more about initiatives my administration is working on, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

Check out the FY2024-2025 budget that I released last week.

This budget is an investment in improving the quality of life experienced by all of our residents. My third budget maintains our ongoing commitment to smart fiscal management which will allow us to secure our financial future and ensure that we deliver the programs and services our residents deserve.

Every day, our neighbors and businesses make difficult choices on how to manage their budgets, and we must do the same with our municipal budget. The City of Stamford’s finances are strong, and our fiscal standing allows us to continue to invest in critical services and infrastructure that make Stamford such a desirable place to live and conduct business.

My budget proposes:

  • The Board of Finance lowering the mill rate to 24.14 mills (one of the lowest in the state)
  • Expanding the Senior Property Tax Credit
  • Holding the Personal Property and Motor Vehicle Mill Rates flat

MAYOR’S UPDATES

  • Reconnecting Communities Federal Grant: I am honored that the Biden Administration chose Stamford for a Westside Neighborhood Connector Project, part of historic levels of funding aimed at reconnecting communities that were cut off by transportation infrastructure decades ago, leaving entire neighborhoods without direct access to opportunity, like schools, jobs, medical offices, and places of worship. US Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced the grant for Stamford amongst 132 other national projects.
  • Coffee with the Mayor: Join me on March 22nd at 8:30 am at Elm Street Diner for Coffee with the Mayor. I look forward to seeing you!
  • Grand Opening of Banking Circle US Headquarters in Stamford: I join Governor Lamont in welcoming newly chartered fintech payments bank, Banking Circle to Stamford. From its new headquarters, Banking Circle US aims to build partnerships across the country with these financial institutions to enable payout capabilities clients need in multiple global geographies and currencies. Learn more from the Stamford Patch here.
  • New Bus Route: I am pleased to announce that Stamford has a new bus route. Serving the Springdale and Cove communities, the buses will depart from Weed Avenue (Cove East Side) and operate by way of East Main to Courland Avenue, including service to Glenbrook Station, to Hope Street, and return to Cove. Buses will run hourly and seven days a week. Click here to learn more.
  • Tractor Trailer Accident on I-95: I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to the Stamford Fire Department for their heroic efforts during a critical incident on I-95 last week. Their dedication and expertise displayed in executing a lifesaving rescue are truly commendable. Watch the News 12 clip here.
  • Statement on Haiti: Today, I released the following statement regarding the ongoing violence in Haiti:

“During this difficult time of violence and uncertainty, my thoughts and prayers are with the Haitian people and Stamford’s Haitian American community. We support the ongoing efforts in Haiti to restore human rights, peace, stability, and democracy. Our city is home to a vibrant and large Haitian American community, and we stand with them and are ready to provide support to Stamford’s Haitian community during this challenging time.”
