Stamford Awarded $2.5 million under Connecticut Communities Grant Program

 Communities Challenge Grant

Today, Office of Governor Ned Lamont announced that Stamford is one of 12 municipalities in Connecticut that received funding under the Connecticut Communities Challenge Grant Program through the Department of Economic and Community Development.

Stamford will receive $2.5 million for the Scrap Works Initiative, which is designed to transform Pacific Street by creating a main street with small businesses housed in retrofitted existing buildings that reflect the community culture.

The award was given to this project based on its focus of creating a lively commercial area that increases foot traffic, prioritizes streetscape improvements while also preserving and reinvesting in the historic buildings on Pacific Street. The Scrap Works Initiative will invest in affordable retail opportunities for residents and reinvigorate underused properties to create a variety of mixed-use spaces for work and leisure.

I want to thank Governor Ned Lamont and DECD Commissioner Lehman and his team for their focus on investing in projects that improve the vibrancy and quality of life of Connecticut residents. The City of Stamford is looking forward to working with Scrap Works on this exciting endeavor.

National Public Health Week

 Mayor and Health Dept

In honor of #NationalPublicHealthWeek, I visited and met with the employees in the Stamford Health Department. The past two years has underscored the importance of public health and providing essential services to protect the health and well-being of Stamford residents. I want to celebrate and commend the City’s Department of Health staff and Jody Bishop-Pullan, Acting Director of Health, for all their proactive actions and leadership to help Stamford through the COVID-19 pandemic while also attending to the many other community health needs.
