Statement from Mayor Simmons on Robb Elementary School Shooting in Uvalde, Texas

As our community grieves with the City of Uvalde, Texas, Mayor Caroline Simmons released the following statement regarding the tragedy at Robb Elementary School, “I am deeply saddened and angry thinking about the lives lost today at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. These were children and educators. As a mother, I can't stop thinking about the children, the educators, and the families that are directly impacted along with each and every child that experienced this horrifying event and will be forever scarred. The City of Stamford grieves with the City of Uvalde, Texas and the rest of the country. But we must do more than mourn each time we witness another tragedy. City and School Forum on Mental Health and Safety of students in Stamford

 School Forum

On Wednesday I was honored to join Superintendent Dr. Lucero, Police Chief Shaw, school administrators, law enforcements officers, and public health experts for a City and School Forum on student safety and mental health. While this forum was planned before the horrific shooting in Texas, the events of the past few days put even more in focus the importance and urgency of addressing safety and the mental health of Stamford students.

This is only the beginning of the conversation, and we welcome feedback and input from parents, students, and administrators to ensure we work collectively to enhance school safety, promote healthy habits, and provide greater mental health resources for residents of all ages in our city.
