Juneteenth Celebration

 Juneteenth

Beautiful day to celebrate Juneteenth! It was wonderful to be among so many community leaders and activists as we paid tribute to Dr. Joyce Yerwood and Rodney Pratt, who was honored with the 2022 Stamford ICON Award.

Thank you to all the volunteers and organizations who supported and organized today’s events - Jere Eaton, Stamford Public Schools, the Boys & Girls Club, the Concerned Clergy, the Stamford Arts & Culture Commission and Parks and Recreation, the Stamford Police Department, and UCONN Stamford

 Community Organizations and Initiatives

H4h

There are so many organizations and initiatives that do incredible work each day in our community.

Last week, I met with the team of the Individuals Achieving Independence program. This district community-based transition program for students ages 18-21 works to prepare students for competitive employment through experiential learning at worksites around the Stamford community. Thank you to Meghan Osowiecki and the whole IAI team for their leadership and support for this program.

New Neighborhoods, which works to develop low-and-moderate incoming housing throughout Fairfield County, hosted their second annual community Juneteenth celebration at MLK Apartments. Thank you to William Healy and your team as well as the volunteers who help to organize this fantastic event.

On Saturday, I had the honor of joining members of the Stamford Fire and Police departments, EMS first responders, and veterans for the 11th annual Hooks for Heroes fishing tournament. Each year, Hooks for Heroes Connecticut brings severely wounded troops to Stamford from Walter Reed, where they currently reside and are undergoing therapy or medical treatment from their war injuries. These men and women stepped up to defend our country, serving and sacrificing so much for our nation - they are truly heroes.

Thank you to Commodore Steve Bagwin and the team at the Halloween Yacht Club for all you do to support our brave veterans and ensuring their stories are honored and remembered.

 Storm Drain Upgrade Meeting

 Storm Drain Meeting

In this year’s Capital Budget, I designated $2,000,000 for city-wide storm drain upgrades and $500,000 for the first city-wide storm drain study, so we can ensure Stamford is prepared to mitigate the impacts of storms and flooding. This week, I met with our Engineering and Highways Departments to discuss the implementation of these important projects.

This is just one platform where I will be sharing updates on a weekly basis, but you can also connect with me and my administration on the platforms below:
And of course, I will be out and about across the city every week visiting with local businesses, meeting with constituents, and hearing from stakeholders in our city – so I hope I’ll be able to talk to you in person very soon.

Have a wonderful weekend!
