Stamford AAA Bond Rating

On Monday, I was proud to stand with City staff from the Office of Administration to highlight that rating agencies Fitch and Standard & Poor’s reaffirmed the City’s AAA bond rating, as well as the success of our recent bond sale.

What does this mean for Stamford residents? Some important takeaways include:

➡️ The AAA bond rating and bond sale is not only a recognition of the fiscal strength of the City of Stamford, but it is also invaluable in giving us the ability to invest in our infrastructure, including our roads, sidewalks, bridges, parks, and educational facilities.

➡️ The AAA bond rating means that Stamford can borrow at a cheaper rate for its capital investments - meaning more savings for residents.

➡️ Our reputation as a fiscally strong and responsible City impacts how we are viewed regionally and nationally - which is why we continue to see joh growth and companies relocating to Stamford.

Bond ratings show trajectory and we are proud of the path we are on - Stamford is open for business!

I want to thank Director of Administration Sandy Dennies and our budget team for their hard work and commitment to fiscal responsibility. We will continue to work toward our goals of implementing responsible budget practices, reducing our debt, and securing more state and federal funding to reduce the burden on Stamford taxpayers.

School Safety Training

The Mayor’s Office, the Stamford Police Department, and Stamford Public Schools are hosting important active shooter awareness sessions for staff on August 24th from 9:30 am – 11:30 am and 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. There will also be a session for families and community members on August 24th at 6:00 pm. Click here to join.

 Stamford Awarded RAISE Grant

My top priority is to improve our City's aging infrastructure and I am thrilled that the City of Stamford has been awarded $2.1 million through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s RAISE Grant program.

This funding will support the planning needed to advance the West Main Street Corridor project, which will improve the corridor with complete streets technology, with a focus on greater mobility access, pedestrian safety, and added bike lanes.

I want to thank our federal delegation for their advocacy and support of this project, as well as our state delegation, and the West Side Board of Representatives members. This funding and investment in the West Side is long overdue and I look forward to continuing to work with our local, state, and federal partners to move this project forward.

Ride Along with Stamford Police

Yesterday, I went on a ride along with Senator Pat Billie Miller and Officer Jessica Bloomberg. The men and women of the Stamford Police Department work hard every day to ensure residents feel safe in our community. My team and I are committed to working collaboratively with our public safety officials to implement community-based solutions and programs to address the root causes of crime.

Stamford Babe Ruth Team Places 3rd in the Nation

I want to extend my congratulations to the Stamford Babe Ruth team for finishing in 3rd place in the World Series in Ephrata, Washington! This came after the Stamford Babe Ruth team became the New England Regional Champions. Stamford Babe Ruth has been chartered in our City since 1952 and has provided thousands of kids the opportunity to enjoy baseball and learn the important lessons of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Thank you to all the players and their coaches for your hard work this season and to the parents and community members who donated to support the team's travel - we are so proud of you!

We had a fun Saturday morning last weekend at the 20th Annual Backpack Community Party at the Stamford PAL Center. Thank you to the Stamford Salvation Army and the Police Activities League for hosting this event, which supports so many students in our community. With only a week to go until the school year, I look forward to working with our community partners and Stamford Public Schools to ensure students have the resources needed to thrive and succeed.

Mental Health Updates

  • Thank you to all who joined Miles for Smiles, which was held on Mondays and Wednesdays this summer. This was a great opportunity to meet new people and enjoy our wonderful outdoor spaces. If you have not had an opportunity, please join us on Monday, August 22 at Cove Park at 5:00 p.m. Participants gather just over the bridge at the entrance of the park. Thank you to Lorraine Olson for organizing this event to support mental health in our community!
  • The Mayor's Office, the Department of Health, Stamford Public Schools, and local community partners continue to meet this summer to advance the Youth Mental Health Alliance. This collaboration seeks to address the mental health challenges facing our youth. During the July convening, YMHA provided updates on the progress made by the various workgroups over the past six months. The Stamford Advocate recently wrote an article highlighting the work that the YMHA has done thus far. Stay tuned for more updates!
  • Remember to check out the Mental Health Resource Hub on the City of Stamford's website. This page has a dedicated list of resources highlighting community nonprofits and organizations that help those suffering from a range of mental health and addiction issues.
This is just one platform where I will be sharing updates on a weekly basis, but you can also connect with me and my administration on the platforms below:
And of course, I will be out and about across the city every week visiting with local businesses, meeting with constituents, and hearing from stakeholders in our city – so I hope I’ll be able to talk to you in person very soon.
Have a wonderful weekend!
