When it comes to housing, Stamford can't afford to do nothing

My top priority is creating a more equitable, affordable, and economically vibrant City where everyone can thrive and this starts with ensuring that people who want to live in Stamford have access to high-quality, affordable housing.

This doesn't just help the hard-working people who are essential workers in our City or the young people who grew up here who want to continue to live and work here as adults, but this is also  vital for Stamford’s economic future.

We must not close our doors to those who make our City thrive and approving the current proposal for 35 Crescent Street will ensure that we are providing critical workforce housing as well as community space for residents to utilize.

If you believe as I do that we must make Stamford more affordable, please reach out to the Board of Representatives to urge its support for this proposal. Read my op-ed here.

 Carwin Park sign unveiling

Access to parks and green spaces are vital to a healthy and thriving community. My administration is launching a parks strategic plan to properly evaluate the needs un all our City parks.

Last night I was honored to join community leaders to unveil the new sign at Carwin Park. This park is a very special place for so many people in our community and on the West Side. It is also a great example of us honoring our City’s history and the trailblazing individuals who are part of that history.

Joseph Carwin, for whom the park is named, was the husband of Dr. Joyce Yerwood, and they were an extraordinary couple. Their leadership in the medical field made an indelible impact on Stamford and the Fairfield County region. Joseph Carwin was also the first African American elected to lead the Fairfield County Medical Association.

I want to thank everyone who was involved in making this happen: Kevin Murray and his team in the Parks Department, District 5 Board of Representative members Bonnie Kim Campbell and Melinda Baxter, Senator Pat Billie Miller, and Joyce & Gianni Carwin.

Tech Talent Accelerator

Gov

It was great to welcome Governor Ned Lamont to Stamford to highlight the Tech Talent Accelerator, an initiative that aims to close the skills gap by forming partnerships between business and higher education in emerging, high-demand tech skills, like cybersecurity and data analytics.

Stamford is an emerging global tech hub for these growing sectors and I look forward to working with state partners like the Office of Workforce Strategy and the Department of Economic and Community Development to invest and expand these important initiatives and programs in our City.

Volunteers for the Health, Wellness, and Lifestyle Expo

Health Wellness and Lifestyle Expo

The Health, Wellness, and Lifestyle Expo held in Stamford at Harbor Point and sponsored by Stamford Health is looking for volunteers to help set up and tear down this event. It will be a lovely opportunity to get out in Stamford and serve the community. They are looking for strong volunteers to help them move tables, chairs, and tents to and from the delivery truck and their locations around the Harbor Point Boardwalk.

Set up will be Friday September 9th from 4pm until 9pm and tear down will be Saturday September 10th from 6pm until 10pm (both of these have a likelihood of ending earlier if we have enough volunteers to do it more efficiently). All volunteers will receive food and water during their shift.

Volunteers can sign up for a shift here.

Back to School

welcome back

With school starting again this week, I just want to wish all Stamford students, teachers, and faculty a wonderful first day of school and a healthy and successful school year!

Labor Day Recycling and Sanitation Schedule

Regularly scheduled garbage and recycling will be collected on September 5th. Administrative Offices, The Transfer Station, Scale House, and Katrina Mygatt Recycling Center will be closed. All facilities will re-open on September 6th.

This is just one platform where I will be sharing updates on a weekly basis, but you can also connect with me and my administration on the platforms below:
And of course, I will be out and about across the city every week visiting with local businesses, meeting with constituents, and hearing from stakeholders in our city – so I hope I’ll be able to talk to you in person very soon.

Have a wonderful weekend!
