Stamford Awarded SHIPP Grant

SHIPP

Exciting news! The City of Stamford has been awarded $3.3 million in funding through the Small Harbor Improvement Projects Program (SHIPP) Grant.

As a coastal City, it is critical that we invest in our beaches and marinas, and this funding will enable us to make progress on important dredging for the Cove and Cummings marinas.

I want to thank the City’s Land Use Department and those who were involved in working on these grant applications and securing the funding for these important projects. They will make a difference in the quality of life in Stamford residents and my administration is committed to continue pursuing funding opportunities that will invest in our City’s infrastructure.

Bipartisan Safer Communities Act Press Conference

 Bipartisan Gun Announcement

On Wednesday morning, I joined Representative Jim Himes, Stamford Police Chief Tim Shaw, Assistant Chief Silas Redd, and Acting Director of Public Safety, Health, and Welfare Lou DeRubeis to highlight the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. This is the most significant gun safety legislation to pass through Congress in nearly three decades. It addresses the issue of gun violence in a comprehensive and holistic way, incorporating critical school safety measures and investments in mental health services and community violence intervention programs.

I want to commend Congressman Himes for his advocacy and work on this issue and Senator Richard Blumenthal and Senator Chris Murphy, who led the effort on the negotiations and crafting of this legislation.

In Connecticut, we have passed some of the strongest gun laws in the country, which has also helped us have one of the lowest rates of gun deaths. Stamford continues to be one of the safest cities in New England and that is due to the hard work of our public safety officials. I want to thank Chief Shaw and the men and women of the Stamford Police Department CT for being on the frontlines and their commitment to keeping residents and our community safe.

I look forward to continuing to partner with all of our public safety officials to ensure Stamford gets the resources it needs to remain one of the safest cities in the region and in the state.

Gold Star Monument Dedication

 Gold Star

Last Sunday afternoon, a Gold Star monument was unveiled in Stamford’s Veterans Park, a permanent symbol to commemorate the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice defending our Nation. This monument was years in the making and would not have been possible without the ongoing efforts of the Stamford Veterans Park Partnership and in particular, Pat Parry, who works tirelessly to not only honor her son, Navy Seal Brian Bill, but all Gold Star families and veterans.

The City of Stamford has a rich history of service and the men and women who serve represent the very best of us and embody the values we should all strive to inhabit – honor, courage, and selflessness. They are our heroes. Those of us who reside in this great nation are only able to enjoy the freedoms and opportunities afforded to us because of the service of our men and women in uniform. We cannot take that for granted.

To all the Gold Star Families - we know that the sacrifice your loved one made in service to our country can never truly be repaid. You have given so much to our country and words cannot fully express how grateful we are to you. You understand the painful price of freedom but your resilience and determination to preserve and honor the legacy of your fallen loved ones is so inspiring.

With this beautiful monument, the City of Stamford will always honor them and hold them close to our hearts, today and every day.

This is just one platform where I will be sharing updates on a weekly basis, but you can also connect with me and my administration on the platforms below:
And of course, I will be out and about across the city every week visiting with local businesses, meeting with constituents, and hearing from stakeholders in our city – so I hope I’ll be able to talk to you in person very soon.

Have a wonderful weekend!
