CITY OF STAMFORD ANNOUNCES 2022 LEAF PICKUP PROGRAM

Stamford, CT – The City of Stamford’s fall leaf pick up season begins on Monday, November 14. The City will continue to permit residents to place their leaves curbside and only loose leaves that are left curbside will be collected. The City urges residents to make sure that loose leaves are not on the road or blocking the sidewalk, as this may result in removal costs and fines. If residents choose to bag their leaves, they may be places on the road by the curb, provided they do not block sight lines or interfere with traffic.

“As the fall season begins, I encourage residents to visit the City of Stamford website for all updated information regarding leaf pick up,” said Mayor Caroline Simmons. “An exciting new feature we have created is the City’s brand-new interactive leaf pick up status map, which provides updates on where the leaf pick up crews have been, so you can view the status of your road in real-time.”

The City asks residents to not put brush, dirt, or debris in leaf piles or bags. If it is determined that your leaf piles or bags are not in compliance, they will not be picked up. On heavily parked streets, the City will be posting temporary no parking signage to remove leaves. Please be aware that during this time, illegally parked cars will be ticketed and towed.

As a more environmentally beneficial alternative, the City encourages all citizens to consider mulching or composting their leaves. Shredding leaves into lawns or flower beds or collecting leaves in compost piles are ways residents can dispose of leaves in an environmentally friendly matter.

Residents can also bring loose leaves to the following locations:

  • Stamford Transfer Station (101 Harbor View Avenue) – Monday through Saturday, 6:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • Recycling Center (130 Magee Avenue – Residents Only) – Tuesday through Saturday, 7:00 am – 2:00 pm

The leaf pick up program begins on Monday, November 14th and leaves must be out no later than the following pick up dates:

  • North (Above the Merritt Parkway): November 14, 2022
  • Middle (Merritt Parkway to 1-95): November 21, 2022
  • South (South of I-95): December 5, 2022
Please note that delays may occur due to weather. For more information about leaf pickup, visit the City of Stamford’s website at www.stamfordct.gov/leaves or call (203)-977-4140. For additional updates on this year’s leaf pick up program, sign up for the City Services e-subscriber list
