Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

Read below to hear about upcoming events, important city and state information, and resources for Stamford residents.

MAYOR’S UPDATES

As our Boards of Finance and Representatives review my administration’s budget proposal, I am proud to share our budget priorities and how they support my vision of creating a more inclusive, equitable, affordable, and vibrant City. Please let me know if there’s an event that I or my team can join to update you on our progress!

Mayor Simmons plants a tree at Carwin Park

  • Today, in recognition of Earth Day (April 22nd), I signed the City’s first executive order on climate change and sustainability. This will lay the groundwork for making our city more sustainable and climate friendly. Throughout the day, we visited Cove Island Park to speak with students and residents, planted a tree in Carwin Park, held a book giveaway with SPEF at Drotar Park, and participated in a park clean-up at Chestnut Hill Park.

Mayor Simmons smiles with founders of pickleball America and business leaders

  • Yesterday, I was excited to attend the groundbreaking for Pickleball America at the Stamford Mall. This “sportstainment” complex will serve as a national hub for the fastest growing sport in the US and will enhance the vibrancy of our downtown.

  • As part of my administration’s goal of making Stamford a more equitable, inclusive, and affordable city, last week I highlighted two projects with Charter Oak, including $1.25 million in funding from our city’s capital budget to support the redevelopment of 166 affordable housing units at Oak Park on the East Side. Additionally, I joined Congressman Himes, Vin Tufo (CEO of Charter Oak Communities), and other state and local officials to announce the opening of the newly renovated Oak Lawn apartments.

  • Last week, I joined Attorney General William Tong and the Stamford Police Department to announce a joint enforcement action that resulted in the confiscation of thousands of illegal delta-8 THC and other high THC cannabis products found at three Stamford smoke shops. We have a zero-tolerance city policy for the sale of illegal and unregulated cannabis products.
