      • Veterans: James L. Dudley Jr., U.S. Navy, William J. Hennessey, Sr., U.S. Army, Reverend Winton M. Hill, U.S. Army, Joseph Mitchell Kaye, U.S. Army, David M. Kaplan, U.S. Army, and John Robert O’Brien, U.S. Navy
  • GUN VIOLENCE AWARENESS DAY:  This morning, I joined faith leaders and community activists to present a proclamation in recognition of Gun Violence Awareness Day. No community is immune to these types of tragedies and it’s unacceptable that 327 are shot every day in the United States.

In Connecticut, we’ve taken steps to strengthen our gun laws, enacting common sense measures like requiring background checks, safe storage in homes and motor vehicles, banning ghost guns and bump stocks, and Red Flag laws. But we still have so much work to do and I’m grateful for the advocacy and leadership of activists and residents who use their voices to say #EnoughIsEnough.Mayor Simmons presents a proclamation on Gun violence awareness day. • ERITREAN-AMERICAN FLAG RAISING:  Last weekend I was proud to join the Stamford’s Eritrean-American community to recognize Eritrea’s Independence Day at the Government Center. A special thanks to City of Stamford employee, Sammy Alemseghed for organizing this special event!Mayor Simmons smiles with members of the Eritrean-American community for a flag raising

  •  Train Station Update: On Wednesday, May 31st shortly after 5:00 pm, Stamford 911 dispatch received multiple calls regarding a ceiling collapse at the Stamford Train Station. Once on the scene, the Stamford Fire Department determined that there was a partial ceiling collapse near the stairway between the platform and lower concourse tunnel. The tunnel has been shut down and is closed until the investigation is completed.

Officials from the Mayor’s Office and City of Stamford Building Department, Fire Marshals Office have been in contact with the Connecticut State Department of Transportation and Building Officials. The Stamford Train Station is the property of the State of Connecticut, and it is in their jurisdiction to determine the cause of this incident.
