RESIDENTS STILL URGED TO REMAIN INDOORS DUE TO POOR AIR QUALITY FROM CANADIAN WILDFIRES

STAMFORD, CT – Air quality in the City of Stamford and tri-state region continue to exceed unhealthy levels due to elevated smoke levels from the wildfires in Canada. The City of Stamford, the Stamford Department of Health and Human Services, and the Connecticut Department of Public Health recommend that residents avoid all outdoor activities and exposure today and remain indoors, especially children, seniors, and residents with respiratory, heart, or lung conditions. Because unhealthy levels remain high, all after school and recreational activities are cancelled today.

The National Weather Service has extended its Air Quality Alert until 12:00 am on Friday, June 9^th.

The Connecticut Department of Health advises residents to keep all windows and doors closed to keep smoke outdoors. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protections monitors the state’s air quality and posts air quality forecasts each day on the Air Quality Index (AQI). Residents can subscribe to the Air Quality Index here. Residents can also view the City of Stamford’s purple air monitor index here.
