Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

 

Read below to learn more about what my administration is working on each day to deliver for you, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

 

MAYOR’S UPDATES

  • Congratulations to the Class of 2023 Graduates! I was so proud to join students, faculty, and families from Westhill, AITE, Stamford High, and JM Wright Tech for their graduations this week.   • State Budget Delivers Big Wins for Stamford, Including More ECS funding for Stamford Schools, $300 million in Reimbursement for Stamford School Construction (Westhill and Roxbury), and Tax Cuts for Middle Class Families: Governor Lamont just signed the biennial state budget, you can read more here about how we worked together with our legislative delegation to deliver for residents of Stamford.

     

  • Stamford Awarded Three State Resiliency Grants! I am pleased to announce that we were awarded three grants from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection totaling $1.2 million for the Toilsome Brook project and the Heat Resiliency and Cummings Pond projects. These grants will go towards protecting our city and making Stamford a more climate-resilient city.

     

  • Access to Capital Session for Small Businesses: This week, the Mayor’s Office hosted the first of three Access to Capital sessions for small business owners and entrepreneurs. Representatives from DECD, HEDCO, and M&T Bank provided updates on state, local and private sector grants, and financing opportunities for small businesses.

CITY NEWS

  • Walk-In Permitting Office Hours: The next “Walk-in Permitting” office hours will be held on Wednesday, June 21st from 9:00am to 12:00pm in the 4th floor cafeteria of the Stamford Government Center. Residents are encouraged to fill in a survey ahead of time.


  • Mayor’s Youth Employment Program: We are looking for hosts and sponsors of this incredible program which offers students access to paid employment in the private or non-profit sectors. This initiative provides Stamford’s youth with a “real world” perspective before they go to college and improves their skills to make them better workers both for this current job and future workforce opportunities they will pursue.   • City of Stamford Washington Blvd. Safety Study: To learn more visit the project webpage.
  • Connecticut DOT Open House: The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) recently held a public open house at the Government Center to share more information about the proposed Stamford Transportation Master Plan.
  • Parks Strategic Plan: The Mayor launched the Parks Strategic Plan and wants to hear from residents on how to manage and invest in the sustainability of our parks, beaches, and trails. Visit, www.stamfordct.gov/psp for more information and to fill out the survey.

     

    CITY EVENTS

  • Juneteenth Freedom Day Event: On Saturday, June 17th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm the Mayor and City of Stamford will be holding an event in honor of Juneteenth Freedom Day at Mill River Park for a day of fun events!

  • Children’s Learning Centers (CLC) Open House: To attend an upcoming Open House to tour, meet CLC staff and learn about CLC's programs! Be sure to bring your children to enjoy activities and treats from Kona Ice!

  • 4th of July Celebration: In celebration of July 4th, the City of Stamford will hold fireworks at Cummings Beach on Friday, June 30th. The entertainment will begin at 6:00 pm and residents will be able to bring blankets and chairs to the beach. There will be food trucks on-site, and the fireworks will begin shortly after 9:00 pm. The rain date will be Friday, July 7th.

    Traffic

  • ConnDOT Stamford Station Construction
    • Construction continues at Stamford Station, please be mindful and plan ahead.
    • Passengers can find the updated train schedule here.
  • New Canaan Branch Line Improvement Work: Improvements on the New Canaan Branch Line will begin on Tuesday, May 30, and bus service will replace all train service. The track improvements and bus substitution are estimated to run through August.
    • Upon completion, an existing speed restriction in the Stamford area will be eliminated and trains will be able to travel 20mph faster through this section.

  • Vaccination Sites: 1st and 2nd doses are available to all, booster shots for ages 5+ (Pfizer) and 18+ (Moderna/J&J))

  • 137 Henry Street Clinic: Thursday - 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • Ferguson Library (Main Branch): Tuesday – Friday 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

  • If you are unable to leave your home or are uncomfortable traveling to a vaccine site, please call the Stamford Department of Health at (203)-977-4378
  • Please visit the State of Connecticut's Vaccine Portal for information on how to request a new copy of your vaccine card.
