Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

 

Read below to learn more about what my administration is working on each day to deliver for you, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

 

MAYOR’S UPDATES

 

  • Small Business Grants: Yesterday, Director of Economic Development, Leah Kagan, and I announced the 176 recipients of the City of Stamford’s Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grants. Of those awarded, 120 are minority or women-owned, including 34 Hispanic-owned businesses. Each recipient will receive a grant of $8,063.99. Congratulations to all of the recipients and I look forward to visiting many of them in the coming weeks and months!

  • Honor and Remember Flag: This week I was honored to join community members and Stamford Veterans to raise the Honor and Remember Flag in Veterans Park. This flag pays tribute to the selfless men and women who have bravely served our nation and given the ultimate sacrifice.

CITY NEWS

  • Paving Update: Today, Mayor Caroline Simmons and Matt Quinones, the City’s Director of Operations, announced the top 200 roads to be paved over the next several years as identified in the city-wide road assessment. The city-wide road assessment was commissioned in 2022 and conducted over the past year to determine an objective measure to establish a priority list for paving operations. The assessment was conducted by IMS, an independent and non-governmental pavement assessment company. The list of the 200 roads can be viewed here.
  • HT40 Shoulder Check Showcase: Terry Conners Rink hosted the HT40 Shoulder Check Showcase, which featured 30 professional players including Chris Kreider, Adam Fox, Barclay Goodrow, Jonathan Quick, and Mika Zibanejad of the New York Rangers, and over 2,000 people in attendance.
  • BAA Notice: The next Board of Assessment Appeals for motor vehicle will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023 between 5:30pm and 7:30pm. Please click here for more information.
  • Parks Strategic Plan: The Mayor recently launched the Parks Strategic Plan and wants to hear from residents on how to manage and invest in the sustainability of our parks, beaches, and trails. Visit www.stamfordct.gov/psp for more information and to fill out the survey.

 

CITY EVENTS

  • EyeRecycle Pop Up Event: The EyeRecycle pop up event will take place Mill River Park on Friday, August 18th from 11 am-2 pm redeeming 5¢ deposit plastic bottles, cans, and glass bottles for cash.
  • 2023 Summer Restaurant Week: Summer Restaurant Week returns August 14th and will run through August 27th. Click here to learn more.
  • ConnDOT Stamford Station Construction
    • Construction continues at Stamford Station, please be mindful and plan ahead. Passengers can find the updated train schedule here.
  • New Canaan Branch Line Improvement Work: Improvements on the New Canaan Branch Line began on Tuesday, May 30, and bus service is replacing all train service. The track improvements and bus substitution are estimated to run through August.
    • Upon completion, an existing speed restriction in the Stamford area will be eliminated and trains will be able to travel 20mph faster through this section.

       

      COVID-19 Resources

  • All information about Stamford's response to COVID-19, including our case numbers, please visit: www.stamfordct.gov/covid19. 
  • Vaccination Sites:1st and 2nd doses are available to all, booster shots for ages 5+ (Pfizer) and 18+ (Moderna/J&J)
    • Free vaccines can be received at 137 Henry St. Clinic on Tuesday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and Friday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Please call 203-977-5385 for an appointment.

  • If you are unable to leave your home or are uncomfortable traveling to a vaccine site, please call the Stamford Department of Health at (203)-977-4378
  • Please visit the State of Connecticut's Vaccine Portal for information on how to request a new copy of your vaccine card.
