Weekly Local Business Spotlight: A Place Like Home

Each week I will highlight one of our incredible small businesses that received one of the 176 Stamford COVID-19 relief grants.

A Place Like Home is an early childhood education center with programs for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers awarded one of our COVID-19 Small Business grants. The education centered program focuses on the physical, emotional, social, cognitive/language development at each stage of early childhood while supporting creativity and exploration.

Community Non-Profit Spotlight: Historic Cemetery Preservation Society

Each week I will highlight an invaluable local initiative that received one of the 21 Mayor’s Micro-Grants.

Mission: The Historic Cemetery Preservation Society strives to maintain Stamford’s ancient and abandoned cemeteries.
Project Funding Purpose: Funding was awarded to clean up local cemeteries.

Mayor’s Night In: I will be hosting a Mayor’s Night In on September 27^th at the Government Center. Stay tuned for information on how to sign up for an appointment. I look forward to seeing you all soon.
AC Units: This week, I, along with Superintendent Lucero announced that the City of Stamford and the Stamford Board of Education will jointly provide $222,000 to complete the purchase and installation of remaining air conditioning units needed for learning spaces in Stamford Public Schools (SPS).
September 11^th Remembrance: This week, we gathered in Stamford to remember the first responders, survivors, and the nearly 3,000 lives lost 22 years ago on September 11, 2001. We will never forget.
Wheel It Forward: This week I toured Wheel It Forward to learn more about the durable medical equipment library. To learn more visit here.

Improving Pedestrian Safety: In partnership with the Connecticut Department of Transportation, we recently installed a new pilot safety project at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Main Street – the next step in our Vision Zero efforts.

Senior Housing Facilities Listening Tour: This month I began my listening tour of senior housing facilities in partnership with the Mayor’s Advisory Council on Aging. I am excited to hear directly from seniors about the issues that impact and matter to them the most. This week, I visited Shippan Place and Haboursite, and it was great to hear from residents about the issues that matter and impact them the most.

Susan Nabel Park: Last Friday, the Nabel family, Mayor Simmons, Members of the Board of Representatives, and residents gathered for the renaming of Chestnut Hill Park in honor of Board of Representative member Susan Nabel, who passed away earlier this year after a brave fight with pancreatic cancer.

Paving Update: The City of Stamford recently announced 200 roads to be paved over the next several years as identified in the city-wide road assessment. The city-wide road assessment was commissioned in 2022 and conducted over the past year with the goal of determining an objective measure to establish a priority list for paving operations. Permitting Walk-in Office Hours Extended: Walk-in permitting has been expanded! Walk-in Permitting will occur every other Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. located in the fourth-floor cafeteria of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd. For more information, click here. The next Walk-in Permitting session will be on September 26^th.
