Stamford Launches Business Portal to Help Small Businesses Get Started and Grow

Post Date:01/13/2016 3:15 PM

STAMFORD, CT – Mayor David Martin and Director of Economic Development Thomas Madden today announced the launch of the City’s business portal. The website, which can be found at Stamfordbusinessportal.org, was created to eliminate red tape and streamline the process for planning and starting a small business in Stamford.

“Stamford is home to many diverse, thriving small businesses and we hope more people will start a business in 2016,” Mayor Martin said. “Since I took office two years ago, I have been working to cut red tape that is inherent in city government and to simplify processes to make government more accessible. The launch of this website is just one of the steps we are taking toward that goal.”

The multilingual website was designed and created by six interns over the summer, including four from the Mayor’s Youth Employment Program. The website includes links for permitting and licensing, starting your business and business incentives.

“I am excited that the Stamford Business Portal will be the go-to resource for businesses looking to start, operate, and grow in our city,” commented Thomas Madden, Director of Economic Development. “The website provides easy step-by-step guides for people that would like to start a business but really do not know where to start. One of the main goals in developing the website was to help small business reduce the bureaucracy that they encounter at city hall.”

Madden continued, “The website will evolve over the next few years as more features are added.”
