Mayor, Public Safety Officials Introduce New e-911 Communications System

Post Date:04/05/2016 11:17 AM

STAMFORD, CT – Mayor David Martin was today joined by Public Safety officials to unveil a new e-911 Communications System now being used in the City’s Dispatch Center. This upgrade brings Stamford in line with current technologies, and the system is now compatible with next generation 911 systems the State is planning to implement in the coming years.

“The system that Stamford used previously was completely outdated; we couldn’t even tell you the exact location of our police vehicles. We were relying on field units to communicate their locations,” said Mayor Martin. “In the Public Safety sector, new technology means critical time is saved. Our excellent team in the dispatch center will now have access to more information, faster, which will help to ensure a timely and better response.”

The new Inform Computer Aided Response (CAD) system provides dispatchers with information about the location of all emergency assets (Automatic Vehicle Locator), which reduces response time. The old system was based on responding jurisdictions, and didn’t take into account the location of emergency assets.

The new system will also provide first responders with background information on the location they have been called to for a more complete picture of the situation ahead of walking in. The old system was not always reliable. The new system will provide reliability that is crucial for good emergency response.

“The safety of residents, visitors and first responders is paramount. The upgrade of the 911 Communications Center has provided the City of Stamford a robust, high availability CAD/Mobile solution that has many benefits for enhanced safety. The new technology will improve the quality and timeliness of emergency response and will provide for the maximum utilization of resources to emergency incidents,” added Ted Jankowski, Director of Public Safety, Health and Welfare.
