City of Stamford Selects New Health Director

STAMFORD, CT – Mayor David Martin and Director of Public Safety, Health and Welfare Ted Jankowski are pleased to announce that Jennifer A.M. Calder, D.V.M., M.P.H., Ph.D., CHSV has been selected by the Mayor, based on a recommendation by the Health Director Search Committee, to be the City’s new Director of Health. The rigorous interview process had input from the Mayor’s Office, Health Department, HR Department, Stamford Hospital and the Health Commission.

“I am happy that the selection committee recommended such an impressive candidate like Jennifer,” said Mayor Martin. “Her extensive background in the public and private sectors and in education shows that she will be able to enhance the excellent work done by our health department and ensure Stamford residents remain healthy and safe. Thank you to everyone who helped in the selection process to make sure that we got the best person for this position.”

Dr. Calder is currently a faculty member at New York Medical College (NYMC) and Columbia University in the Departments of Epidemiology & Community Health and Epidemiology, respectively. She has conducted work in areas including vaccine preventable diseases, outbreak investigation, and clinical and regulatory veterinary medicine. Dr. Calder also worked on the New York City Bioterrorism Preparedness Plan during its inception.

Dr. Calder’s previous positions include work at the Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center; Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Bureau of Disease Control; the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Pathobiology; and the Ministry of Agriculture, Veterinary Division in Kingston, Jamaica.

Her appointment supports the message to both residents and the staff of the Health Department, that the Health and Safety of the Stamford community and the caring for Stamford residents – including its most vulnerable – is a priority. I’m confident she will be an excellent Director of Health for the City of Stamford,” said Ted Jankowski the Director of Public safety, Health and Welfare.
