City Policy Allows Residents to Prepay Real Estate Property Taxes

Post Date:12/21/2017 3:30 PM

STAMFORD, CT— In light of the recently passed federal tax bill, the City has received many inquiries from residents regarding payment of future City of Stamford Property Taxes.

City policy is to accept tax payments when they are made, including payments made before the due date. The City does not provide any opinion or any assurance regarding IRS treatment of these payments. The City is not a tax advisor and cannot answer questions concerning the impact on federal and state taxes of early tax payments. All such questions should be directed to a qualified financial or tax advisor.

In keeping with City policy, the City will accept early payments for property taxes.  However, the City cannot, and does not, provide any assurance or opinion that the IRS will allow these payments to be deductible on federal income taxes for the calendar year ending on December 31, 2017.

If residents make early property tax payments, the City will credit these advance property tax payments to future tax bills. However, the City does not refund any portion of early tax payments, nor is the City permitted to offer a discount for any early payments.

In order to pay property taxes, residents should make checks out to “Tax Collector, City of Stamford.” Please indicate the specific property address on the memo of the check, and mail the payment to:

Stamford Tax Department
6th Floor, Government Center
888 Washington Blvd.
Stamford, CT, 06901

Residents can also visit the Tax Department on the 6th Floor of the Stamford Government Center, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The Tax Department will be closing early on Friday, December 22 at 12:00 p.m. and will be closed on Christmas Day, December 25th.
