Stamford Board of Representatives Pass Budget Proposal

Post Date:05/24/2019 11:45 AM

On May 1st, 2019, Stamford’s Board of Representatives reviewed the Mayor’s City budget proposal. Although the Board moved to make additional reductions to the proposed budget, the City is encouraged by the Board’s decision to keep the budget largely intact.

This administration shares a common goal with the Board of Representatives: both want to make improvements to our City, save taxpayers money and provide more efficient services to Stamford residents. The City is encouraged by the Board’s decision last night to work with this administration and pursue those goals. Stamford is fortunate to have a budget that allows the City to operate effectively.

The focus of the City’s budget conversations should be on planning for this community’s future. The City’s budget is more than a document detailing how taxes are used. Stamford’s budget is a plan for the future of our community. It is an expression of elected officials’ priorities, and what can be accomplished in the coming year. The importance of this budget process is finding common ground with elected representatives and beginning to move forward in the direction everyone wants to go.

Stamford’s future has never looked better than right now. The City is growing, its economy is expanding, the City has many excellent managers running its departments, and while this administration has made significant progress there is still much work to be done.

This administration thanks the Board of Representatives for allowing the City to continue working for the residents who make this City great.
